Come to the Kitchen for a rare treat. Teresa Ralli, a founding member of Peru’s famed Yuyachkani theater collective,
will be performing this one-woman adaptatation of Sophocles’ Antigone. | |

A moving portrait of opposition to political cruelty | |
|

Yuyachkani developed this version of the story through interviews with families of the “disappeared”
in Peru, and the text was written by Peruvian poet José Watanabe. Yuyachkani was awarded Peru’s national honors for
Human Rights in 1999 and worked with Peru’s truth commission investigating crimes against humanity committed during
the 1980s and early 1990s.

While in Ithaca Teresa Ralli and other members of Yuyachkani will be leading two
public events at Cornell University: a discussion on Thursday April 12th and a two-day intensive acting workshop, April

Masquerade: Poems of Calypso and Home | |
|
|
Roger Bonair-Agard shares stories, poems, and calypso over a bottle of rum in his newest work Masquerade: Poems
of Calypso and Home.
Through poetry and song, with humor and in all seriousness, Masquerade explores the
ways in which distance, remembrance, and seventeen years away from home shape a man. It critiques and celebrates the Trinidadian
ethos by examining the influence that its seminal music -- calypso -- exerts on a poet and the larger world.
Roger
is a Cave Canem fellow and has studied with such luminaries as Yusef Komunyakaa, Marilyn Nelson, and Cornelius Eady. In 1998,
he was named the Nuyorican Poets Café Fresh Poet of the Year. That same year, he coached the Nuyorican team to victory in
the National Poetry Slam over 44 other teams. The following year he earned the title of National Individual Slam Champion
while leading and coaching the New York City louderARTS team to the final four of the National Poetry Slam (out of 48 teams),
a feat he repeated in 2000.
You may have seen him on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, don’t miss this rare local
appearance!

"Creating Solo Performances"
Playwright and performer Kira Lallas to offer class at KTC |

Autobiographical pieces are very popular and are a great way to create work for oneself. Kira Lallas, a playwright and
performer who has toured her one- woman play Translations of Xhosa throughout the Northeast, will be teaching this four-week
workshop. | |

Mondays, March 5-26 from 7:00 to
9:00 pm. | |

Participants will explore the
creation and performance of autobiographical work for the stage through writing, imaging, and body/voice work in a collaborative
setting.
Participants will learn a series of techniques, exercises and approaches to get the creative juices flowing. The end product
may be the solid beginning of a complete piece or a set of skills participants can use for future writing and performance.
Regardless of the extent of previous theater experience, this work is applicable to all kinds of writing—and also a
lot of fun. |

About Kira Lallas: A 2002
Boston University graduate and Ithaca native, Kira has lived and worked in Ithaca, Boston, Poland and South Africa. Her play
Translations of Xhosa received an Achievement in Playwriting and Performing Award from the Kennedy Center’s American
College Theater Festival, and she toured it for two years to theaters and universities. She has written other plays and performance
pieces and has taught writing and performing workshops in Ithaca, Boston, and South Africa.
Class size will be limited to 10 people and participants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Sign up
