Casting
Announced for Hangar Theatre’s Dirty Blonde
APRIL 6 (ITHACA, NY) The Hangar Theatre has announced
the cast for its summer production of Claudia Shear’s Dirty Blonde.
Carbonell award winning artistic director Peter Flynn directs the play, to run June 3-13 at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca,
New York.
Tony award nominee Emily Skinner (Side Show, Dinner at Eight, The Full
Monty, and Jekyll & Hyde) leads the cast that also includes Joe Kinosian and Kevin Carolan. Skinner plays the legendary actress Mae West whose
wit and audacity made her America’s first sex symbol.
Flynn says, “Dirty Blonde is an irrepressible look at icons, idolizers
and how our perception of ourselves is shaped by others. The company we’ve assembled brings a great balance of hilarity, sensitivity, and heart.”
Shear’s Dirty Blonde received Tony Award
and Drama Desk Award nominations for Best Play in 2000.
This is Flynn’s inaugural season as the artistic director of the Hangar Theatre. He previously directed
the Broadway concerts of Funny Girl with Whoopi Goldberg and Idina Menzel,
and Chess with Josh Groban & Julia Murney, as well as creating three nationally-acclaimed
musicals for TheatreworksUSA. Flynn will also direct the Hangar’s political farce November, which runs July 8-18.

people. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe follows Peter and Lucy as
they act out their story, sharing the magical adventure that begins by stepping through a wardrobe and ends with a fierce
battle for freedom in the land of Narnia. This is a very special winter tale of wonder that celebrates the power of children’s
imagination and courage.

The Hangar Theatre will offer a special weekend workshop for adult actors entitled
Audition Intensive: Working with the Pros on November 1st and 2nd.
Students will learn the latest audition methods from Stephanie Yankwitt of the New York City-based Bernard Telsey Casting,
Hangar Theatre associate artistic director Wendy Dann, and newly appointed artistic director Peter Flynn.
The program’s goals are to help adult actors find dramatic and musical material specific to their abilities and
develop a poised audition that accentuates their unique qualities. Students will boost their confidence on-camera and learn
how to effectively use résumés and cover letters to meet with agents. This special, weekend-long audition “boot camp”
culminates with an audition for Yankwitt, Dann and Flynn with feedback. Each teacher in Working
with the Pros is currently casting projects in both Ithaca and New York City. Are you looking to break into the
industry? “The Pros program offers specific, useful answers to questions about the entertainment industry and how to
sustain a career in it,” says Peter Flynn.
Workshop coach Stephanie Yankwitt comes from New York City where she is a casting associate for Bernie Telsey Casting. In addition to hundreds of commercials, Ms. Yankwitt has cast films, such as Across the Universe, Rent, and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Part 2, as well
as Broadway plays and musicals, such as Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, Three Days of Rain
(with Julia Roberts) and Glengarry Glen Ross (with Liev Schreiber). Wendy
Dann is the associate artistic director of the Hangar Theatre and the director and co-author of Sammy & Me, a new musical planning to hit Broadway in 2009. Peter Flynn is an award-winning Manhattan-based
director. His credits include directing the Broadway concerts of Funny Girl with
Whoopi Goldberg and Idina Menzel, and Chess with Josh Groban & Julia Murney,
as well as creating three nationally-acclaimed musicals for TheatreworksUSA.
Space is limited and can be reserved by calling the Hangar Theatre’s business office at (607) 273-8588 ext. 440
or by e-mailing artistic@hangartheatre.org. Tuition is $100 for college students; $150 for adult non-students. The Hangar Theatre’s Audition Intensive: Working with the Pros will be held at the Whalen Center for Music at Ithaca College
on November 1st and 2nd from 10 am to 6 pm.

and Toner is a dramedy about relationships and the many trials and triumphs they bring into our lives. Set in the neutral
environment of an everyday office, Inc. and Toner follows a few diverse characters through a not so normal day at work. Trevor
is trying to find his place in a relationship, which has seemed to give up on him. Gina, everyone's favorite gossip, tries
to reminisce about her 3 or 4 or 5 tries at marriage only to find love where she was least expecting it. Even the office's
security guard and CEO are given a chance to experience love's ups and downs. A series of hilarity and heartfelt moments come
together to create this fun and meaningful piece.
Inc. and Toner was written by Britain
Valenti and will be directed by Dustin D. Bell. The cast and production team are composed of Ithaca College Theatre

by Michael V. Poe
"It's ice. Slippery, daunting ice, and I'm stuck on it." Oslo and Ricardo are
awaiting the birth of their daughter, when things finally start moving. When the climate starts overeating the north, life
begins moving south and invading the peace the couple had. Forced out of their home by the Olympics, they are left with no
choice but to quest to Copenhagen to reclaim what was stolen. A play of epic proportions that pushes the boundaries of myth
and fairy tale to explore the limits we allow ourselves to go to in order to change our fate. A journey through the unknown
begins without your permission.

Weber, and Michael Wessells. This original work takes you to the bottom of the world where anything can happen.

Performing Therapy | |
|
|
by Camilla Schade and Kira Lallas
PERFORMING THERAPY is a wacky romp through depression, loss, displacement,
dementia, and the surprise healing nature of Schuyler County written by Camilla Schade and Kira Lallas. A "depressively experienced"
actress turned therapist (Camilla Schade) leads group therapy in an attempt to provide helpful advice and therapeutic modalities
in PERFORMING THERAPY. Art Therapy with Balloon Animals, Affirmations on Post-it notes and Primal Humming are some
of the hopeful remedies. But in her attempt to proffer relief, she gets wildly off-track relating her own poignant story of
life after loss in Schuyler County. PERFORMING THERAPY confronts the value of memory through an engaging recognition
of the art of letting go.
Camilla Schade is an actor/director/teacher/playwright transplanted 4 years ago to beautiful Schuyler County from
PA. She has performed for Ithaca's Hangar Theatre and was last seen on the Kitchen Theatre stage in OLD TIMES. Her acting
and improvisation classes and workshops for all ages can be found at 171 Cedar Arts Center in Corning, through the Family
Service Society and Pathways in Corning, Ithaca Youth Bureau, and as a Teaching Artist for the Hangar Theatre. Camilla met
Kira Lallas through Kira's class on Solo Performance offered by the Kitchen.
Kira Lallas, currently earning
her Masters in Social Work, grew up in Ithaca theatres and co- founded the Orange Tree Theatre Company. While at Boston University
her studies focused on solo autobiographical writing and performance. She toured her award-winning one-woman show, TRANSLATIONS
OF XHOSA, about her time spent in South Africa, until she lived as a resident at Wisdom's Goldenrod Center for Philosophic
Study in Hector. The creation of PERFORMING THERAPY was made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State
Council on the Arts' Decentralization Program administered locally by The ARTS of the Southern Finger Lakes.
One
performance only - Monday, May 4 at 7:30PM

The Clean House is a "one-of-a-kind comedy" - The Syracuse New Times |
|
There are just five more performances of The Clean House, and seats are going fast!
"...the Kitchen's production, under the intelligent
direction of Sara Lampert Hoover (whose work here over 10 seasons has been exceptional), is both intimate and dazzling."
- The Ithaca Journal
"Fifteen minutes into this tart comedy and you see why reviewers have such a hard time
nailing down (Ruhl's) mercurial-and astonishing-talent." - The Syracuse New Times | |
|
|
|
|
|
The Clean House, by prize-winning playwright Sarah Ruhl, is about clean houses, messy lives, jealousy, disease, compassion and forgiveness.
Lane, a physician, wants her house clean. Lane's Brazilian maid Matilde wants to be a comedian. Lane's surgeon husband Charles
has fallen in love with his patient Ana. Ana wants to celebrate life and embrace transitions. Lane's sister Virginia would
clean up all the mess everyone else is making, if only they would give her permission.
The Clean House creates
its own genre with an unexpected mix of realism and fantasy. Four diverse women characters drive the action, and playwright
Ruhl gives them ample opportunities to say things others might never dare to utter.
We look forward to seeing you at the Kitchen! Megan Pugh
